It’s never wrong to have a few Sleeping bags for all four seasons of the year. Of course your budget is the only thing that is going to break down your decision. Nevertheless, I have now 2 down sleeping bags, one for winter and one for summer. I realised that the summer down, after 15 years of usage is just clumping up, making the sleeping bag get lots of cold spots and makes me freeze in a warm summer night. That was the reason for getting my first synthetic sleeping bag. It had to be one which is good for warm nights up to 18°c, as well as sudden temperatures that drops to +-3°c.  With Starlight II, I have all which is desired and ordered this through my favourite online outdoor shop.

starlight II

Manufacterer: Mountain Equipment
Model: Starlight II
Total Weight: 1540g (including cover)
Insulation: Polar loft Micro

The package came 2 days later, just in time to welcome a warm summer weekend. The sleeping bag was just as compact as the Starlight I, only a slight heavier. But the weight was not a big constraint to me as it was not going to be something I was going to carry around.  The first night proved a well slept night. By slipping in the UltraSoft 210T lining warms you up pleasantly within a few seconds. You don’t feel damp, sweaty and sticky in the morning and it seems to regulate the temperature in the sleeping bag with it’s Polar loft Micro insulation keeping you warm. The hood of the bag is smaller  and anatomically formed than the classical sleeping bags. If you tend to use the sleeping bag as just a cover (for really warm nights) the hood doesn’t get into the way.. The YKK Zippers comes with a double lapping, which makes it solid to hold in your hand. The bag has a 3 dimensional neck collar keeping the warmth on colder nights. I was pleasantly surprised that even on warmer nights, the bag evens out the temperature which makes it really pleasant to sleep without sweating out.
